It’s a Dog’s Life
On many an occasion you have been introduced to our dogs, Hector and Ralph, our home would not be our sanctuary without them. Many of our client’s feel the same about their pooch and each project is never complete without adding a piece of luxury bedding for their special family members. Here are a few photos of some of the range of beds available at Ian Thompson Interior Design.

The Art of Collage
A wall of art can either be a perfect symmetry of uniformed lines or a haphazard cluster of favourite pieces, either, instantly puts personality into any room. Creating a wall gallery is no easy feat so I’ve put together these tips to help. If you prefer the uniformed look best to have a common theme, using the same coloured frames or mount, spacing each frame 1 or 2 inches apart, keeping them close. If it’s a medley of art, incorporate, paintings, sketches, photographs and even an odd mirror can join the cluster too. Place each piece on the floor first, creating a draft of the overall look, to make sure the balance is right.

A Little Jewel
We are vigilant about client’s privacy and rarely show photos of our work, but with Helen’s permission, we have a sneak preview of her new jewellery shop that we recently completed in Holywood, Co Down.
The design is based on gold punctuated with black. Watered silk taffeta walls, spun gold curtains with stunning tie-backs.
It was a pleasure working with Helen Ainley Jewellery and we wish her every success with her new shop.

Dinner Party
Dinner party at the Cottage. The atmosphere is so easy to create with a abundance of votive and dinner candles and of course our signature scented candle throughout each room. Lots of the same colour flowers is a failsafe way of creating luxury and a wonderful effect. Candles lit, music playing, champagne chilling and all ready to greet our wonderful friends. We always think that the effort you put into creating the perfect ambiance and food is a reflection on how much you think of your friends. The night was a great fun and very late!
Boating on the Riviera
Ralph Lauren’s new fabric available at our showroom, Sur la Cote, the Riviera look for your seating on your terrace, beside the pool or just perfect for a boys bedroom. Inspired by the stunning beauty of Mediterranean harbour towns and boating on the Riviera, graphic island prints and nautical motifs are realized in classic maritime hues with pops of red and yellow for chic coastal style. Printed and woven on cottons, linens, and other blends, this collection takes you from spirited scenic views and nautical emblems and crests, to classic stripes and traditional houndstooths.

How to do the Inky Trend
This years inky trend is all about using dark colours on our walls, from a palette of dark navy, charcoal or deep teal, giving rooms a moody and atmospheric feel beckoning you to curl up and relax in. However the trick is not to end up with a depressing cave so here are some guidelines.
- If your preference is matt walls make sure your other materials, in your fabric and furniture, have lots of texture and light reflective properties.
- Use gloss paint or varnish over the dark walls to give a light reflective background in a small room.
- The other alternative is wallpaper in textured weaves, vinyls or faux skin and leather, such as our Elitis range or Zoffany Arbour.
- Get the lighting right, it should be all dimmed, lots of architectural fittings for the background, adding floor and table lamps.
Here are some rooms to give you inspiration.

Busted!
The scarcity of a good bust is no longer, I’m not talking about the surgically enhanced variety, I am talking about the stunning marble busts, heads and torsos that you once had to scrum through a flea market to find. The sculptures that once frequented a stately home are now on trend and were making a big statement at the Interior Show at Paris last month. They are a wonderful contrast in a contemporary room and give a sense of grandeur to any traditional setting. Our designs are increasingly including mixing 3-demensional art with artwork here are some images to give you ideas.

A Pop of St Valentine’s Red
They say red is the colour of attraction and we certainly love a pop of red in a room scheme. Here are some images to give you ideas for a room design with passion… If you are a little faint hearted just simply add a bunch of red flowers, a cushion or a lamp shade, perfect!
