The term craft is often overused, however these wall coverings are so beautiful, they’re a work of art. The raffias, lopix and bacbac (abaca bark) are prepared before the final production by dying and drying in the open air before weaving. Each meter often needs one full working day for the craftsman to create. The richness and diversity of the materials of metal, cork, bacnoc, mother-of-pearl, give these wall coverings an exotic and rare beauty. Each fiber is woven by hand looms and then the weaving is laminated to a non-woven support to facilitate its hanging
There is nothing as romantic as sitting having a meal on the Terrace of the Gritti Palace in Venice opposite the Salute Basilica. It has been a few years since I had the pleasure and since then it has been refurbished. The historic building has been restored back to its former glory, all their precious art and artefacts restored by local artisans. I thought you would love to see the inside of the 15th Century Palazzo, photos via Architectural Digest.
One of our favorite spaces for bold patterned walls is the bathroom. While we should give our eyes some moments of rest in calm spaces like our bedrooms, we can go for it and instill excitement in small areas like powder rooms and downstairs cloakrooms. Patterned wallpaper can work wonders, instantly elevating it from a functional space to a fabulous one. Some pics for inspiration and showing a selection of wallpaper available at Ian Thompson Interior Design.
